INDEPENDENCE, MO - Frank M. Tunis, 79, of Independence, MO passed
E. 39th St., Independence. A second visitation will be at 10:00 AM away
Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at a Kansas City Hospital. Visitation will
Saturday, June 26 with services beginning at 11:00 AM at Friskel Funeral
Home, 230 E. McKay, Frontenac, KS with burial at the Garden of
Memories in Pittsburg, KS. The family suggests contributions be made to
either the American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.
Frank was born July 25, 1930 to Sam and Katie (Carpino Turko) Tunis in
Croweburg, KS and was baptized into the Catholic Church. He graduated
from Mulberry High School in 1945 at the age of 14 and went on to work
various jobs. He eventually became a welder and retired from Allis
Chalmers Agco in 1993 after 34 years of service. Frank married
Christena Manning on June 22, 1958 at the Nashville Christian Church in
Nashville, MO. Together they have called Independence home for 47
years. Frank was a member of the Kansas City Moose Lodge #10,
Sugar Creek Fraternal Order of Eagles #3717, and a retired member of
the Steel Workers Local Union #1959. He was an avid gardener and
country music fan. Also an avid sports fan, he had been signed to the St.
Louis Browns, a minor league baseball team, although he did not go.
Frank will be missed by all who knew and loved him including his wife of
52 years, Christena Tunis of the home; nephews Sam Tunis of
Frontenac, KS, Ted Tunis of Pittsburg, KS, David Tunis of Renton, WA;
niece Donna Tunis of Pittsburg, KS; and several great nieces and
nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, John
Tunis and Anton Tunis; and niece Kathleen Depenbusch.
