Obituaries
Wilbert H. “Bud” Parkison of Frontenac , Kansas , died August 2, 2011 at
KU Medical Center, Kansas City, Kansas .

          Bud was born in Oswego , KS on December 21, 1932.  The son of
Louie “Ted” Parkison and Mildred Horn, Bud graduated from Oswego
High School in 1950.  Drafted by the Army in 1953, Bud attended
leadership training at the Engineer Officer Candidate School in Ft.
Bellvoire , VA.  Upon graduation, Bud was commissioned as a 2nd
Lieutenant and served with the Army Corp of Engineers 89th Port
Construction Company in Rochefort , France .

          After his military service, Bud attended Kansas State Teacher’s
College (now Pittsburg State University ) and earned a degree in
Industrial Education in 1960.  He worked in Design Engineering on the
Apollo-Saturn V Rocket program, A7 Corsair and C5 Galaxy aircraft
programs.  In 1971, he became an instructor in drafting and mathematics
for the Sabine Valley Vocational Technical School in Many, LA.  In 1976,
Bud was awarded Louisiana ’s inaugural Outstanding Vocational
Instructor of the Year.  In 1977, he became a Curriculum Specialist in
Vocational Education for the State of Louisiana .  After retiring from the
State of Louisiana , Bud worked as a technical writer for a number of
major firms.  Upon retirement, Bud and his wife Loretta, relocated to
Frontenac where he was active in Frontenac’s American Post #43.

          Bud married Marguerite Loretta Fox on August 13, 1960, at St.
Patrick’s Catholic Church in Walnut, KS and she survives at the home.  
Bud in further survived by his daughter, Lisa Parkison of Tulsa, OK, son
Mark and daughter-in-law Jennifer Parkison of Weatherford, TX and six
grandchildren: Herb Hatlee, Jr. of Jonesboro, GA; Mark Hatlee of Griffin,
GA and Madeleine, Maria, Matthew, and Michelle Parkison of
Weatherford, TX.  He is survived by a sister, Dorothy Boggess of
Oswego , KS and brothers-in-law Rollie Burr of Canyon Lake , TX , and
Bill Osborne of Tulsa , OK . He is survived by his Fox in-laws: Frank and
Frances Fox of St. Paul, KS, Barbara and Bernard Vitt of Tulsa, OK, Pat
Fox of Walnut, KS, Mary Lou and Don Murray of Pittsburg, KS, Frances
Eaton of Seneca, KS, Sharon Wineinger of Raleigh, NC, Linda and Bill
Purdon of Bentonville, AR, Tina and Ed Backhus of Sarasota, FL and
John and Anita Fox of Girard, KS.  Uncle Bud will also be missed by his
many nieces and nephews.

          Bud was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Ted
Parkison, Jr., his sister Irene Schadel, Jane Osborne, and Kay Burr and
in-laws Michael Fox and LaDonna Marsh.

          Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday August 6, 2011
at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac , KS with Father Thomas
Stroot as celebrant.  Burial will be follow in the Mount Carmel Cemetery in
Frontenac where the John F. Derby American Legion Post #43 will
provide flag folding and presentation ceremonies, nephew Adam Smith
will play “Taps”.  The parish rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Friday at the
Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends
following.  The American Legion and the American Legion Auxiliary will
have the processional walk-through at 6:45 p.m. Friday at the funeral
home prior to the rosary.  Friends may call at the funeral home after 4 p.
m. Friday.  Condolences can be sent to www.friskelfuneralhome.com  
The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Wilbert
H. Parkison Scholarship Fund at Pittsburg State University .  Memorials
may be brought by or mailed to the Friskel Funeral Home 230 E.
