Stephen (Steve) E. Merando, 62 of Capaldo died at 5:40 p.m.
Thursday February 18, 2010 surrounded by his family at his home in
Capaldo after a six-month battle with cancer.
He was born November 6, 1947 in Pittsburg , KS the son of Joe and
Clara Mae (Morey) Merando. He was a lifetime resident of the
Frontenac/Capaldo area; he attended Frontenac Schools and was a
1965 graduate of Frontenac High School and a 1976 graduate of PSU.
Steve served in the National Guard from 1967 until 1973.
He married Marsha Hudson July 11, 1970 in Pittsburg ; she survives
at the home.
Steve was a plumber by trade; working for himself; and the local
plumbers & steamfitters union and most recently for the Parsons State
Hospital .
He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church-Frontenac;
the Frontenac Knights of Columbus; a 42 year member of the Frontenac
American Legion and #441 the local plumbers & steamfitters union.
Survivors include his wife Marsha of the home; 4 sons-Chris Merando
and wife Jennifer of Pittsburg, Chad Merando and wife Melisa of
Independence, Anthony Merando and wife Lacee of Frontenac, Adam
Merando of Kansas City, KS; a brother Joe David (Jody) Merando; 3
sisters-Jolene Moriconi and husband Roy, Karen Doue, Rosann Chance
and husband Roger; 4 Grandchildren Samantha, Hannah, Sophia and
James Merando; aunts Rosez Kritzer, Lala Payne, Angeline Brunskill,
June Morey, Pam Carpenter and numerous nieces and nephews. He
was preceded in death by his parents and a grandson Zachary Merando.
Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday February 23,
2010 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac with Father
Patrick York as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Mount Carmel
Cemetery where the Frontenac American Legion will provide flag folding
ceremonies. The parish rosary will be recited at 6 p.m. Monday at the
Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where the family will receive friends
following until 8 p.m. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9 a .m.
