Obituaries
           Winferd E. “Lefty” Hamm, 86 of Frontenac died at 2:36 p.m.
Friday October 14, 2011 at the Via Christi Hospital in Pittsburg.

           He was born February 11, 1925 in Lockwood, MO the son of
Abner and Belva Florence (Lemaster) Hamm.  He had been a resident of
Frontenac since 1992.

           Lefty received his BA from Kansas State Teachers College in
1953 and then received his MA in Administration from Kansas State
Teachers College in 1963.

           He was a veteran of WWII serving his country in the United States
Coast Guard for three years in the North Atlantic on a submarine chaser.

           Lefty married Frances L. Eastwood on June 2, 1957 in Pittsburg;
she survives at the home.

           He was a teacher and school administrator working from 1953
until 1990.  He started his teaching career in 1953 at Arma where he
taught and served as assistant football, and track coach and was the
head basketball coach; he stayed in Arma until 1970 at which time he
moved on to Altoona Midway where he was school administrator until
1986; from 1986 until 1987 he worked in Topeka for the Adult Education
Program, in 1987 he moved to South Lyon County School District where
he remained until his retirement in 1990.

           Lefty was a member of the Frontenac United Methodist Church,
the Frontenac America Legion, the Crawford County Retired
Administrators and the Frontenacr’s Coffee Drinkers.

           Survivors include his wife Frances of the home; a son Bruce
Hamm of Lawrenceville, GA; a brother Jerry Hamm of Coffeyville; three
sisters Carolyn Oertle of Pittsburg, Reba Hastings of Pittsburg, Alice
Holland of Arkansas City; two grandchildren Amanda and Taylor John
Hamm, several nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews.  He was
preceded in death by his parents, a son John Hamm in 1982 and a
brother Robert Hamm.

           Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday October 18, 2011 at
the Frontenac United Methodist Church with Reverend Dennis Paschke
and Reverend Verl Strong officiating.  Burial will follow in the Frontenac
City Cemetery where the Frontenac American Legion will provide flag
folding and presentation ceremonies.  The family will receive friends from
6-8 p.m. Monday at the Friskel Funeral Home in Frontenac where friends
may call after 4 p.m. Monday.  The casket will remain closed at all times.
