KS died at 5:47pm, Tuesday, August 25, 2009 at St. Frances Hospital in
Topeka, KS.

Mike was born May 3, 1909 in Frontenac, KS to Fortunato and Maria
(Baudino) DeCastro. He attended area schools. He later went through
the American School of Correspondence and got his Mechanical
Engineering Degree.

On May 9, 1931, in Frontenac, KS, he married Elizabeth “Lisa”
Giacobetti. She preceded him in death on July 12, 2003.

Mike and his wife owned and operated the Frontenac Clothing Store from
1947 till 1998. He also worked as a designing engineer at
McNally’s Manufacturing for 47 years retiring in 1983. He was a
licensed architect designing the Sacred Heart Elementary School in
Frontenac and the Frontenac High School Gymnasium and football field.

Mike was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac,
where he belonged to the Commodore Barry General Assembly Council
#0294 4th Degree Knight of Columbus. He was an Eagles member and
belonged to the Frontenac Lions Club. He was a charter board member
of Centennial Life Inc Co. He served on the Commerce Bank board and
on the Frontenac city council in the early 1960’s.

Survivors include his daughters Phyllis Marie DeCastro-Sloan of
Topeka, KS; Joyce Volmut of Topeka, KS; Bette Snoddy and her
husband Ron of Berryton, KS and Anna Potter of Orangevale, CA; a
sister Erma Kahn of Baton Rouge, LA; seven grandchildren, 10
great-grandchildren and 2 great great-grandchildren and numerous
nieces and nephews.

Mike was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Jennie Nolan and
Angelina Cannaday, Brother Joe DeCastro, step-grandson and nephew.

Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30am, Monday, August 31, 2009 at
Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Frontenac, KS with Fr. Bob Spencer
officiating. Burial will follow in the Garden of Memories Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7-8pm at Sacred Heart Catholic
Church on Sunday, where a rosary will be recited at 7pm. Honor guards
by the Commodore Barry General Assembly Council #0294 4th Degree
